Our Philosophy

Webster’s Dictionary defines diet as “food and drink regularly provided or consumed”.

We at Simple Start Nutrition want you to enjoy eating while improving your health.  We do not believe the on again, off again diet or latest diet trend is the best approach to healthy eating.  We don’t believe  you should have to restrict or avoid certain food items, or feel bad about what you are eating.  Instead, we are committed to working with you to build a customized, sustainable eating plan for your unique needs based on your body’s mental, physical and emotional well being.  The time we spend together will allow us to establish goals and focus on your body’s individual nutrition needs to assure you find joy in what you eat regularly.

Nutrition plans will be personalized based on your lifestyle, medical needs and personal preference.  We will teach you how to plan meals, monitor portion size, add variety, and focus on nutrition as a whole, not individual foods. This will empower you to make the right choices for you.  Whether you’re looking for a way to manage your weight, a heart healthy plan, trying to cut back on salt or added sugar, or just want to feel better about your nutrition, we’re here to help.

We would love the opportunity to work with you to define what it means to be healthy and collaborate on forming achievable goals that are essential to living a healthy, happy and balanced life.  Contact us today to learn more!

About Us

Amanda Stahl

Amanda Stahl,
RD, LDN

Amanda co-founded Simple Start Nutrition in 2021 with the goal to support and motivate community members on their journey to make diet and lifestyle changes while keeping it simple.

Amanda’s nutrition related journey began during her time at La Salle University, which is where in 2014 she completed her bachelor’s degree in Nutrition and Dietetics, and her certified dietetic internship for her to become a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) and Licensed Dietitian Nutritionist (LDN).  During that period of time, she developed knowledge in clinical and community nutrition as well as food service management.

With her gained experience, Amanda began her career in 2015 as a Clinical Dietitian at Abington Hospital – Jefferson Health, which is where she continues to work today. Over the years she also has been given the opportunity to provide nutrition counseling at two separate medical offices in the Abington area.

Amanda specializes in developing individual plans for patients that utilize an evidence based medical approach in order to treat her patients’ specific medical needs.  She also thoroughly enjoys working with those who desire to learn about nutrition and express the willingness to make changes.  It is her core belief that simple steps can be taken to make positive outcomes so that her patients can keep their minds and bodies happy and healthy for years to come.

Fun Facts: Amanda enjoys driving down the shore while listening to her favorite songs, trying new craft beers and restaurants with her husband, and being active by running in the neighborhood, doing yoga and gardening.

Chris Henigan,
MS, RD, LDN

Chris co-founded Simple Start Nutrition in 2021 in order to support clients with making smart, simple changes to their diet, so they can fuel their bodies the healthiest and easiest way possible.

Chris Henigan

Chris graduated from Long Island University with a bachelor’s degree in Biology.  After working as a microbiologist for 2 years, she knew this wasn’t the path for her. She needed to find a new path that included meeting lots of new people, exciting new research, and the ability to help others.  Nutrition fit the bill perfectly.  Chris graduated with her Masters in Human Nutrition from Drexel University and went on to complete her certified dietetic internship through Marywood University to become a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) and Licensed Dietitian Nutritionist (LDN) in 2010.   Since then, Chris has been using her knowledge to provide evidence based nutrition support in the clinical setting at Cooper University Hospital, Abington Hospital, and now Lansdale Hospital.  Her degree in nutrition has also afforded her the opportunity to be an adjunct professor at Immaculata University and Manor College, as well as represent her field as a nutrition expert for various local new stations such as Good Day Philadelphia, CBS, and NBC.

The experience Chris has gained over the past eleven years, and her passion for helping others, has led Chris to open a private practice so that she may help others navigate their own nutrition journey.  It is her belief that personalized nutrition plans can be simple and healthy, and lead to positive changes.

Fun Facts: While Chris is not a great cook herself, she very much enjoys eating her husband’s delicious cooking and trying all sorts of new cuisine.  Chris also enjoys traveling, scuba diving, and being outside with her friends and family.
